The media war for control over the South China Sea is heating up. After a ruling in the Hague against China’s claim to the South China Sea, the Chinese government has produced and released a video laying claim to their historical sovereignty to many of the contested islands within the area.
Experts, historians, and foreign diplomats have gotten behind the Chinese claim and feature prominently in the video.
Knowing the importance of public opinion on US lawmakers, the Chinese have agreed to terms to play this video in a prominent spot in the famous Times Square, and it will be played 120 times a day.
While this video is unlikely to have any major effect on US voters, it is possible that with sufficient media attention the topic becomes a key feature of the upcoming Presidential debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
